Angel Lafita has called for Deportivo to dig deep against Villarreal if they are to keep their European dream alive.

Depor's form has dipped in recent weeks and the Galicians have now lost their last three Primera Liga matches.

They have also conceded eight goals in the process and slipped to eighth in the table.

Lafita knows it will not be easy to get back to winning ways against fifth-placed Villarreal but is hoping his side's impressive home form, which has seen them lose just twice at the Riazor this season, will see them emerge triumphant.

"We have to be 100% motivated," he said. "Now more than ever we need a victory.

"We have been defeated so few times at home, at the Riazor, so now is the time to return to being strong.

"Defeat against Villarreal would open up more of a gap, so we're going to do as much as we can not to let that happen.

"Beating Villarreal will give us a great opportunity to continue fighting for one of the top spots.

"They're a good team, a team that's at the top, a team that are playing in the Champions League, a team we have to be wary of.

"We have to take that into account. But we intend to put them in difficulty."

Lafita has recovered from a knock picked up in training midweek and goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia is available again after suspension, but coach Miguel Angel Lotina will be without Rodolfo Bodipo, Pablo Amo and Andres Guardado.

Villarreal have won the last three clashes against Depor but are having their own blip.

Having begun the season brilliantly, they have gone off the boil of late, and could only draw at home to rock-bottom Osasuna last weekend.

Despite being level on points with fourth-placed Valencia, Villarreal have won just twice in their last 13 competitive matches and Gonzalo Rodriguez is looking for a result against Depor to get their season back on track.

"You shouldn't make a drama over the draw against Osasuna," said the defender. "We're lacking a bit of consistency.

"We're not used to playing so many games without winning and I'm sure if we win against Deportivo, we will go up the table a lot.

"Depor have players that can unsettle you a lot and we will have to be very focused."

Team-mate Santi Cazorla was more critical of his side but is optimistic they can finish as Primera Liga runners-up for a second successive season.

"We're going through a period where we're not playing well at all," he said. "But in our favour is that other teams aren't performing well either and that gives us hope and confidence.

"Barcelona seem uncatchable, but Madrid are seven points ahead and that's a gap that Barcelona had on us last year and we overcame them.

"We're going to continue fighting for second spot."

Rodriguez will hope to be included in the side after missing the past few games with a knee injury but star striker Giuseppe Rossi is out after spraining his ankle in training.

Bruno Soriano also misses out through suspension, while Pascal Cygan is a big doubt.
